The fellows will get one day off the week after taking weekend call. The second year of the fellowship will consist of four months of an advanced embryology rotation under the direction of Dr. Richard Scott and Kathleen Ferry. During this time, the fellow will learn advanced laboratory techniques and get hands-on case experience in each skill set. The experience will enable the fellow to gain a true understanding of the techniques and procedures preformed in the embryology laboratory and allow them to work effectively with their embryology teams in the future.
During this time, fellows will formulate hypotheses, design protocols, prepare and submit research grant proposals, collect data, evaluate data with appropriate statistical methods, and write and submit manuscripts. During these four months, the fellow is expected to begin their thesis project.

Additionally, the second year fellows will complete their two required graduate courses see sheet on graduate course work. This will be under the direct supervision of their mentor and Dr. During this time, the fellows will complete their thesis project, analyze data, perform appropriate statistical methods, write manuscripts and submit their research for publication.
At end of the third year, the fellow will return to clinical responsibilities for two months. Here the fellow will be expected to assume full faculty-level responsibilities for running an ART program. The fellow will at this time refine the skills that they have learned during their fellowship, including embryo transfer, and demonstrate all the skills necessary to be an independent practitioner. All fellows are expected to attend the educational conferences independent of the year of fellowship or the specific rotation to which the fellows are assigned.
The slides, references, and any other relevant materials will be archived for review in the future. On a monthly basis, this time will be utilized for a journal club. The fellows will be responsible for presenting one or more journal articles of particular interest.
Selection of the article will be done in conjunction with the program director and the faculty member assigned to help the fellow prepare and lead the journal club presentation. There will be occasional presentations by guest lecturers who are experts in their fields. The ABOG mandated course work will typically be completed during the second year of the fellowship. Fellows will be required to take a statistics course as well as one additional graduate-level course to satisfy their fellowship requirements.
The statistics course requirement may be met by the Exxcellence in Clinical Research Course. For the second required course, the fellow will be able to choose between the molecular genetics courses offered through Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School or Rutgers University. During the three-year fellowship, the fellow will also have an opportunity to complete a Masters of Public Health at the Rutgers School of Public health.
The masters degree programs are designed to accommodate full—time students as well as working professionals as part-time students to focus on job—related areas of concentration.
